Howard Marks

13-12-2017

Howard Marks, drugs smuggler and author, born 13 August 1945 : died 10 April 2016.

Died aged 70 of cancer, was Britain’s best-known and most charming drug smuggler, and also a successful author and raconteur. We want to describe him as a ‘truly lovely, entertaining and inspiring man’.

He first came to the public’s attention when he published a bestselling memoires in 1996, the year after his release from a US prison, where he had been incarcerated for drug offences. Howard Marks, known to many as Mr. Nice, was a ‘true modern-day folk hero’, who had done ‘so many funny, shocking, illegal things’.

R.I.P. We will miss Howard Marks.
